Search Engine Marketing Halifax - and why I need it.

Search engine marketing came about after the emergence of search engines in the 1990s once web traffic in general started to increase.  The idea was that people would use the services of search engines to find what they wanted quickly & easily.  A little like a super phone directory listing every product or service imaginable.

As things developed so did the idea of people being able to pay advertise their websites ahead of others and a whole new industry was born.  The industry was comprised initially of the search engines selling their pay per click schemes although it didn't take long for people to realise the advantages of being able to appear at the top of search engine rankings and not have to pay for it each time.

Specialists appeared offering services to promote websites higher in the search engine rankings and a very grey area of work came to light.  Like anything people always try to get a competitive advantage and started using ways to manipulate the results by non-too-ethical means.

Spidering or crawling programs weren't all that sophisticated at the time so they could be easily manipulated and results affected.  This was not good news for search engine companies themselves as for people to use them and hence advertisers revenue to follow, they had to provide the best results.  This resulted in a constant battle breaking out with the search engines on one side and people who would manipulate them on the other.

Over the years programs have been refined in their syntax and what is considered good practise and if you employ search engine marketing you'd better be sure to get someone that knows what they are doing otherwise you can easily get into trouble and find yourself removed from the listing quite quickly.

That's a brief history of what happened ......but why use search engine marketing in Halifax Nova Scotia?

The reson is pretty simple - with access to the Internet so easy now people don't just reasearch what they want to buy online - they are actually buying more & more online too.  What can be easier that sitting in front of a PC and ordering by credit card?  It saves all that effort & time going to visit real shops in a mall.  It saves gas too.

If people aren't finding your business online as well as in a bricks and mortar store you are asking for trouble.  The choice is no longer should I be online or not it is now - do I have an advertising campaign like Google Adwords or do I improve my rankings in the organic listings?
