SEO Tips & Tricks
Tip #1
Try to think how people searching for your products & services would do when they are searching the internet. For example someone looking for an umberella in Halifax is likely to search for umbrellas halifax or Halifax umberellas rather than Widgets Incorporated (your company) just because you happen to sell umbrellas. See page on SEO Halifax
Tip #2
Make sure that you have these 3 areas of meta-data included within each page of your website - Title, Description & Keywords and that they are filled with relevant text related to your web page.
Tip #3
Don't overdo it. Don't as in the olden-days of about a few months ago, try to stuff your keyword section full of every kind of word related to your business. You are only allowed (currently) 6 references to any one word in this section by Google & Yahoo. In excess of this will most likely get you banned from the search engine indexes.
Tip #4
Don't panic. Be patient - it can take months or even years to get high rankings for some search terms no matter what you do and how you try to optimise your website. Sometimes it has nothing to do with how your site is optimised. Sometimes it can be that someone has a bigger budget than you and can afford to buy in more help. No one, regardless of cost can guarantee you top placement in Google unless you can settle for paid advertisements like Google Adwords.
Tip #5
Use analytics. Google offers free analytics that tell you where in the world someone has visited from, how long they spent on your site, what page they entered on and more importantly which page they left on. Also you have information about which words they used to find you. This way you can refine your optimisation.
Tip #6
Research, research, research. Use a professional tool like Wordtracker to measure the effectiveness of key words that can bring traffic to your website. Don't rely on free tools - these are notoriously innaccurate.
Good luck and I hope the above helps you. If you just want to chat or I can help in any way please use the phone dialler at the top left of the page or drop me a note through email and I'd be pleased to pass on some advice to you.
